ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 30 Aprilie 2008
The lessee of the Oxygen plant, owned by ArcelorMittal Galati, is one of the largest gas and engineering companies in the world, Linde Group, which has plans to invest more than 100 million euros in the construction of a new air separation unit and in the upgrading of all existing equipment, the company informs in a release.
ArcelorMittal Galati signed a long-term contract with Linde Group for providing industrial gas.
The agreement stipulates the leasing of the Oxygen plant, starting mid-year, the construction of a new air separation unit and modernization of all existing equipment, the overall investment value exceeding 100 million euros.
'The decision of outsourcing the Oxygen plant is part of our development strategy, focused on the steel production, on boosting our products quality and on deliveries diversification. Outsourcing the secondary activities to top companies in the respective sectors can help us bolster the combine's efficiency, representing an essential step in transforming ArcelorMittal Galati into an excellence center for thick iron plates. Moreover, the agreement protects the interests of all employees', said company's general manager Augustine Kochuparampil.
'We are proud to having been selected by Arcelor Mittal for this project. The agreement seals up a long-term partnership with one of the most important clients and confirms our leading position on the Eastern European market', stated Aldo Belloni, member of Linde AG Board.
Augustine Kochuparampil said that Arcelor Mittal Galati is in the process of getting the necessary authorizations for the outsourcing of the Oxygen plants, estimating that, up to this quarter-end or the beginning of the next quarter, at the latest, the agreement will be signed.
In his turn, Hans Ludwig Rosenstock, Chief Operation Officer of ArcelorMittal Galati, explained that, first of all, by the outsourcing the Oxygen plants, a power consumption boost will be avoided and money will be saved for investments in other zones of the combine. Augustine Kochuparampil stressed that the Oxygen and lime plants are to be leased on a period of 20-25 years and, after that, their sale will be discussed.
