Gaz de France to invest up to 1.5 bln euros in Romag-Termo

Industrial platform of the State Company for Nuclear Activities (RAAN) was visited on Tuesday by representatives of Gaz de France Co.

RAAN director general Constantin Saceanu told Rompres that the French company's representatives showed interest in investing, in the three-four years to come, 1.2-1.5 billion euros in the infrastructure of the Romag-Termo Thermal Power Plant. 'By implementing these objectives in partnership, with major implications for the county's economic development, Gaz de France will become the strongest investor in Mehedinti, capable to create more than one thousand new jobs', stressed Saceanu. In his turn, the project manager Jean Cristophe Ealet underscored that Gaz de France plans to upgrade the current equipment of the thermal plant, to install a new 100 MW turbine and to build some other energy groups. 'RAAN is a credible partner. We want to enter this partnership with a long-term vision, which will secure profit for both sides', said J.C. Ealet. Gaz de France purchased from the Romanian state, in June 2005, a stake of 51 percent in Distrigaz Sud in exchange of 311 million euros. In February 2007, it acquired a stake of 65 percent in Amgaz Co., the third Romanian operator of natural gas storage, with a capacity of 40 million cubic meters. In October 2007, Gaz de France also bought from Azomures a stake of 50 percent in Depomures in exchange of 20 million dollars, as well as a stake of 9 percent in Infochem.
