Eurocopter interested to take over IAR Ghimbav
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 12 Mai 2008
Sources close to the French-German concern Eurocopter, the world's biggest helicopter maker, say the company aims to pay some 11 million euros for the acquisition of IAR Ghimbav, the only manufacturer of helicopters and light planes from Romania.
The State Assets Resolution Authority (AVAS) put up for sale a 64.89-percent stake in the company. One of the compulsory conditions for the participation to negotiations is the investor's five-year business plan, which has to contain the financing sources and the development plan of the defence industry. The investors interested in the company's acquisition will have to submit the tender participation documents and final bids by June 23.
AVAS president, Teodor Atanasiu, said last month that IAR Ghimbav and Avioane Craiova also will maintain their field of activity, the Romanian side receiving the approval of the European Commission in this respect.
IAR Ghimbav was put up for privatisation at the end of 2006, Eurocopter submitting the sole privatisation bid. The negotiations with French-German company failed in 2007, after several delays of the privatisation term.
Aristotel Cancescu, president of Brasov county council deems that there will never be erected a residential park or any real estate development in Ghimbav, although several investors are interested to buy the company to turn its land into a real estate business.
