Number of investors in investment funds on the rise in April 2008

The number of investors in investment funds went up 1 percent in April 2008 against the previous month, to 84,748 people, despite massive corrections registered on the capital market in April, according to data released on Thursday by the National Union of Collective Placement Bodies (UNOPC).

The most significant growth was registered at monetary funds category - 3 percent and as regards the bonds - 2 percent. The net assets of the 54 investment funds in Romania reached 1.028 billion lei (280 million euros) at the end of April, up 3.7 percent against the previous month but down 9.5 percent against the end of 2007. The share funds (15) and the diversified funds (17) continue to dominate the open investment fund markets, with net assets of 310 and 314 million lei respectively, up 4.2 percent and 4.4 percent against March 2008.
