Romania ranks 28th in Europe in terms of commercial stock

The shopping centre stock per thousand people is of 25 sq m per capita in Romania, with the country ranking 28th among the 32 European countries taken into account, according to a report of the real estate consultancy company CB Richard Ellis (CBRE).
Nevertheless, the malls to be finished in the immediate interval will modify this figure, that is the shopping centre stock per capita will reach 50 sq m, with such shopping centres to be completed, but with no data for their completion confirmed yet. The estimates point to a figure of 75 sq m per capita.
At national level, the retail park is to be enlarged by 500,000 sq m of shopping centre by the end of next year, with more than 50 percent of the area to be delivered, according to estimates, during the first half of this year. In the last quarter of 2007, there were completed the works at four new shopping centres, having added to the already existing stock nationwide another 130,000 sq m.
In terms of increase in the shopping centre stock nationwide, estimated for 2010, the CBRE reports show Romania is to register an advance of 80 percent as against the existing stock, thus ranking 7th among the ECE countries, Greece and Turkey.
According to an analysis made by real estate consultancy company Cushman&Wakefield Activ Consulting, the development level of the retail sector in Romania reached a maximum last year.
In terms of increase in the annual expenditures in the retail industry, Romania ranks third of the 27 European countries.
In 2007, the sales of retailers on the local market stood at some 700 dollar per capita, with a growth rate of 26 percent, which places Romania on the 9th position among the ten European countries analyzed by a study of real estate consultancy company Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL).
The study also showed the growth potential of the Romanian market is to stand at 10 percent on an annual basis until 2010, one of the highest levels in Europe.
An analysis made by real estate services company Colliers reached the conclusion that Romania is currently having 365,000 sq m of shopping centre available for rent nationwide.
