Kempinski chain eyes Romanian market
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 16 Mai 2008
German luxury hotel chain Kempinski gets ready to purchase one of the two hotels located on Magheru Bvld in downtown Bucharest or it is going to build one from scratch, said Oliver Petcu, managing partner with luxury industry consulting company CPP Management Consultants Ltd, which intermediates the entry of the hotel chain in Romania.
Kempinski seeks to enter the Romanian market either by an acquisition or by a greenfield project, with a final decision to be made by year-end, Petcu told Rompres on Thursday.
Peter Schmitz, who is responsible for the hotel chain's international expansion, is looking in Bucharest for a hotel having at least 150 rooms, with an area of at least 45 sq m.
Kempinski officials are also interested in the mountain resorts of Valea Prahovei (north of Bucharest), where they might build a 100-room hotel even before making an investment in Bucharest, since, according to Petcu, the hotels built in the communist era do not have 45-sqm rooms. The investment in such a hotel is put at nearly 20 million euros.
