ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 19 Mai 2008
EU Council President's adviser on environmental issues Jeremy Rifkin will come to Bucharest, in June, reports a press release sent Rompres.
Rifkin, who is also the chairman of the Foundation on Economic Trends in the US, will participate in the Forum - Environment Between Present and Future, the biggest environmental event in Romania, this year, due in Bucharest, on June 10-11.
Also invited to attend the Forum are former US vice-president Al Gore a cofounder and President of the Generation Investment Management, Romania's President Traian Basescu and Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu.
'The Forum will be different from the usual standard patterns to be seen on such occasions. We want to debate real problems, and the participants to exchange information and share the genuine experience, they were living and which worked. We have been talking about the environment for years and no big deal has happened. This far-reaching event represents something tangible, at last, said one of the organizer Ionut Georgescu.
Jeremy Rifkin, who is invited as a speaker, wrote many books on the impact the technological exchanges have on environment, society and economy. Translated into over 30 languages, his books are studied in hundreds of universities, corporations and governmental organizations worldwide. Rifkin is an adviser on environmental issues, with the European Commission, the European Parliament and in a couple of EU countries, Spain and Italy included.
Rifkin's presence in Bucharest is a positive signal for everybody who see environment a very topical issue, especially in Romania. In a polluted city, full of garbage with a sewerage system older than ten years, with streets still lacking sewerage, people meet to understand the dimensions of this issue and learn from the experience of the others who have already solved such problems, said Georgescu.
Waste recycling, the Danube Delta and Biodiversity, Renewable Energy, Research and new technologies, Climate Changes and Pollution, CSR and Green Acquisition are some of the topics to be approached on the occasion.
In order to encourage the participants to network, it will be organized a business lounge and business meetings.
The One TDI Company and the Green Generation NGO are the organizers of the Forum in June.
