Romfilatelia launches postage stamp issue to celebrate 10 years since setting up of ECB
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 26 Mai 2008
Romfilatelia is to launch on Monday a postage stamp issue to mark 10 years since the setting up of the European Central Bank (ECB).
The event is to be hosted by the Romanian Central Bank (BNR) and is to take place after the conference 'Risk in Performance Measurement,' to be held by Andrew Likieman, Professor at London Business School.
European Central Bank (ECB) was set up on June 1, 1998, and had six months available back then to get prepared for reaching certain objectives which have been an unheard challenge, such as the replacing of different currencies of a group of states with 'the single currency,' and the drafting of the monetary policy for the entire euro area.
Since then, EBC, in its quality as the prime actor of the Eurosystem, the central banking system in the euro area, has led the monetary policy in countries in the monetary union, aiming at maintaining the stability of prices - its main objective - on an average term, as this stability represents the first condition for sustainable economic growth and for achieving prosperity in Europe.
On June 1, 1998, the 'European System of Central Banks' was set up, an institutional framework currently including the ECB and the central banks in the 27 EU member states.
