Pasarela – A fashion festival to link Romania with France
ACT Media - news agency - 26 Mai 2008
The idea of organising a fashion festival in Bucharest - Pasarela - was meant not only to present the Parisian creators to the Romanians, but also to link Romania with France in terms of fashion, the French Ambassador to Romania Henri Paul told a press conference ahead of a festival due over May 29-31.
'The main reason having made the French Embassy in Bucharest to organise this event is the deep friendship between Romania and France. Another reason will be that in Romania culture is continuously moving and evolving, with fashion one of the fields Romanians are very interested in,' the French Ambassador said. The festival represents also a way to promote the creations of Romanian designers at international level, it is to be held at the French Institute in Bucharest, the French Embassy in Bucharest, the Novotel hotel, the Bragadiru Palace and the National Contemporary Art Museum (MNAC).
The event is organised under the aegis of the French Embassy in Bucharest, with the participation of the French Institute in the Romanian capital. 'At its first edition now, Pasarela aims at combining Romanian and French esthetics and skills in fashion, with the French Institute in Bucharest having its gates wide open and getting involved in this project,' the Vice-President of the body Didier Montagne said. On the first day of the festival, in the Bragadiru Palace, there is to be varnished an exhibition of jewelry created by Phillippe Airaud, on the second day in the Novotel Hotel a press conference will be held by Gert Van de Keuken, representative of the Trend Union office, who is to speak about the fashion of 2009-2010. On Saturday, on the last day of the festival, there are to be screened three films, among which a recent documentary about the life of creator Karl Lagerfeld. During the first edition of the festival there are to present their collections Romania designers Lena Criveanu, Carmen Secareanu, Rozalb de Mura and Maria Lucia Hohan. The four Romanian designers have been selected by the magazines partners of the event, with the 'marks' having been given by a series of personalities in the fashion world in France, as well as by a representative of the Elle magazine.
