70 pc of accommodation structures in Romania, below standards
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 28 Mai 2008
70 percent of the tourist accommodation structures in Romania are below standards, and more so because here there are numerous one and two-star hotels, stated on Tuesday, in Targu Mures (north-west of Bucharest) State secretary Lucia Morariu with the Ministry for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Trade, Tourism and Liberal Professions.
Lucia Morariu welcomed the fact that the money to come on the priority Axis 5 of the Regional Operational Programme will be destined to modernization and expanding and not to hotel construction, 'because we must start with arranging the patrimony we have'. In her opinion, currently, tourism in Romania has own attractions and potential, but Romania is not genuinely a tourist destination.
The State secretary stated that a National Plan for Territory Development from tourist point of view was drafted in collaboration with the Ministry of Development, Public Works and Housing, which is in ongoing public debate.
'Therefore, we will have a plan, we will have a map of the regions and destinations in Romania classified according to their tourist importance. Consequently, we can devise some strategies. This is very important. But the biggest challenge we are facing, much debated by the people, especially in the press, but less known in essence, is the quality of services', concluded Lucia Morariu.
