Capital inflow into Romanian market almost doubles in 2007

The foreign investors in the Romanian capital market were 1.5 times more numerous and the capital inflows almost doubled in 2007 compared to the previous year, reads the National Securities Commission (CNVM) report for 2007.

Likewise, December 2007 was a record month when the non-residential investors showed their interest in the Romanian capital market by a capital inflow much higher than the average, a record figure mainly scored by foreign individual investors. Over 6.748 billion lei (1 euro=3.35 lei in early 2007 and 3.52 lei at end-2007) entered the Romanian capital market in 2007, by 46.59 percent more than in 2006 when it totaled 3.144 billion lei (1 euro = 3.39 lei at end-Dec 2006). The capital outflows from the Romanian market grossed over 4.866 billion lei, in 2007, by 57,59 percent more than in 2006 when they exceeded 2.802 billion lei. UK-based buyers scored the highest participation, namely 1.327 billion lei or about 17 percent of the total. Cypriot residents held a 18 percent quota of the total share sales, that year, the Bursa daily reads.
