Bucharest Stock Exchange plans launching two new indexes
ACT Media - news agency - 9 Iunie 2008
The Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) plans launching in the near future two new indices that should reflect the evolution of the top liquid 25 companies, including the Financial Investment Societies (SIFs), and of the energy sector; the indices will be the BET-XT and the BET-NT respectively, BVB president and director general Stere Farmache said on Friday.
The BET Extended Index (BET-XT), will be calculated retroactively starting January 1, 2007 and will have a reference level of 1,000 points on that date. In the structure of the index, a share can account for a maximum of 15 pct. The second index, dubbed BET Energy & Related Utilities Index (BET-NT), will be built of listed energy companies and the related utilities. The starting value for the BET-NT will be 1,000 points and will be calculated retroactively from January 1, 2007. A company can account for a maximum 30 pct of this index. The weighing factors for both indices will be the free-float and the representation factor. Apart from the launch of the new indices, BVB decided to adopt a new index calculation and management methodology, aimed at increasing the index transparency. Thus, BVB indices can act as support for derivatives and structured products. The Stock Exchange will announce the companies included in the structure of the two indices and the date of the official launch on June 24, after the quarterly meeting of the BVB Indices Committee.
