Merrill Lynch invests in new energy production facilities
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 13 Iunie 2008
Merrill Lynch is interested to invest in the energy production and in the trade with energy and gas in Romania, daily Ziarul Financiar informs. Merrill Lynch is the first financial international company to enter the Romanian market of energy trading.
At the end of 2007, Merrill Lynch obtained the license from the National Regulatory Authority in Energy (ANRE), meaning the entrance of an international bank in local business with energy.
'We will operate on the en gros market, we will not have final customers. We won't have many employees, but will focus on commercial relations with other traders, energy producers, energy imports and exports. We are also interested in the trading with natural gas, carbon dioxide emissions, a segment where we have a strong market share,' said Nick Frydas, director of regulatory affairs with Merrill Lynch Commodities.
The investment company will finance investment projects in electricity production and obtain energy proportional with the sums invested.
'We are interested in new projects to produce electricity and investment in upgrading the existing units,' said the official
After the bank obtained the license, it bought from Transelectrica energy facilities at Romanian border for the future exports or imports of energy. Frydas said the company has started cooperation with the future business partners.
Merril Lynch wants to introduce a new system of trading on the local market, which entails the direct negotiation with the energy producers, Ziarul Financiar informs.
