Teraplast Bistrita commissions new PVC pipe production line

Teraplast Bistrita Group, one of Romania's greatest PVC processors, commissioned a new production facility for multi-layer PVC outdoor sewage pipes, sited in Saratel (north-east of Bucharest); the new plant will increase the group's production capacity by 4,000 tons a year, that will bring an extra 17.5 million lei (4.8 million euro) in revenues.

According to company representatives cited by daily Bursa, the facility, located 10 km away from Bistrita, will concentrate most of Teraplast group's activities. Only Teraplast subsidiary Plastsistem was so far operating in Saratel, producing since 2007, sandwich-type insulating panels. For the next five years Teraplast Group has planned investments worth a combined 66 million euro, with 45 pct of the total due for accomplishment in 2008; 20 pct of the total planned investments will be completed in 2009. The investment program for the interval 2008-2013 includes the construction of new production facilities in Saratel, the expansion of the production capacities and regional development. A surface of 5.7 hectares, close to the center of the Bistrita municipality, will be freed in the relocation process. Teraplast Bistrita Group includes companies Teraplast, Plastsistem and Politub. Teraplast is one of Romania's largest PVC processors, Plastsistem produces sandwich panels for commercial and industrial buildings and Politub produces polyethylene tubing for gas and water networks. Teraplast was established in 1990, as a spin-off of the Bistrita Construction Materials Company. The new entity incorporated the terracotta and plastics processing departments. Teraplast has a 112-year long tradition in the manufacturing of terracotta tiles and a 30-year long experience in plastics processing.
