Future of Romanian tourism is of 3 and 4 stars

The two and three stars hotels were the most numerous at the end of 2007 among the existing accommodation units and a new trend seems to announce the time for three and four stars hotels.
Allowing for the development of business tourism, the number of hotel projects which are underway has risen this year in big cities. Over 80 new hotels are under project stage or under the stage of construction, of which 19 are to be modernized or expanded. If last year over 300 million euros were invested in the construction of pensions, which turned out to be a lucrative business , the same sum will allotted for hotel projects.
Most hotels under construction will be classified to three and four stars. Most hotels are situated in Bucharest, where 17 accommodation facilities are underway.
Upon the number of hotels the ranking includes also Cluj-Napoca (15 hotels) and Brasov (14 hotels), followed by Timisoara, Piatrra Neamt, Sibiu and Constanta each with 7 hotels.
Only 2 out of the 80 projects, La Meridien and Continenta,l will add 300 new rooms at the already existing number of over 35,000, of three, four and five stars, which, according to the estimates made by general secretary of the Hotel Industry Federation Mihai Rajnita existed last year in the Romanian tourist industry.
According to the report carried out by IBC Focus, a company specializing in monitoring of constructions market, the overall number of Romanian hotels last year was of 1,056, up 8 percent compared to 2006.
