Alpha Bank Greece and EFG Bank Luxembourg authorized to run brokerage operations in Romania

The National Securities Commission (CNVM) has recently registered another four foreign banks to run brokerage operations in Romania, among which Alpha Bank Greece and the Luxembourg branch EFG Bank, Mediafax informs.

The EFG Bank subsidiary from Luxembourg and Commerzbank International, a subsidiary of Commerzbank Germany, are authorized by Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier – Luxembourg to provide in Romania services and investment activities stipulated in their object of activity, according to a CNVM report. The arbiter of the capital market has also registered the bank Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander Limited from Great Britain, whose parent company is the credit institution Kaupthing Bank from Iceland. The subsidiary from Great Britain had received previously the endorsement of the Financial Services Authority – the competent authority in the domain of the capital market from Great Britain. Since the beginning of the year, the investors from Great Britain were the most active in the capital market, purchasing shares worth RON 154.1 M (EUR 41.9 M). At the same time, the investors from Luxembourg purchased titles of RON 107.3 M (EUR 29.1 M), ahead of them being only the British. The investors from Greece ranked only on the sixth position subject to purchases, with operations of RON 57.7 M (EUR 15.7 M), and a share of only 6.27 per cent of the total value of the acquisitions.
