BNR governor: Banks should think more about solidarity and less about market shares
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 25 Iunie 2008
The banking system must think less of recovery and market shares and more about solidarity, cautiousness and coherence, Romania's Central Bank (BNR) Governor Mugur Isarescu told a seminar on Tuesday on the route of EU money from ideas to success.
Some years ago, said Isarescu, one of the big concerns was a low intermediation level of 9 percent at that time, but now intermediation exceeds 40 percent.
'We are living times of turbulences, not to call them a financial crisis, and I would rather Romania avoided all this. It would be useful to this country to be ensured sustainable economic growth until the switchover to the single European currency, under sustainability circumstances,' Isarescu said.
BNR does its duty as far as it is asked and pushed to do it, Isarescu said.
'We are in favour of solid economic growth, but without slippages,' Isarescu concluded.
