Nongovernmental lending tops 171 bilion lei in May, says BNR

The nongovernmental lending increased by 1.8 percent (1.3 percent in real terms) in May as against April 2008, up to 171.834 billion lei, informed the National Bank of Romania (BNR).

The lending in lei increased by 2.4 percent (1.9 percent in real terms), whereas the lending in hard currency expressed in lei increased by 1.4 percent (expressed in euros, the lending in hard currency increased by 2.9 percent). On May 31, 2008 the nongovernmental lending registered a 61.3 percent increase (48.8 percent in real terms) as against May 31, 2007, on account of the 4.17 percent increase of the lei component (30.6 percent in real terms) and on account of the 82.6 percent increase in the hard currency component expressed in lei (expressed in euros, the increase of the hard currency lending was 65.0 percent).
