Romanians' deposits at more than 48 bln lei at end-May - central bank

The national leu currency deposits of the Romanians climbed by 2.5 percent up to 48.103 billion lei in this May, and they grew by 29.9 percent in real terms (40.9 percent in nominal terms) compared to May 2007, the National Bank of Romania (BNR) announced on Tuesday.
The leu deposits of the legal entities (non-financial companies and non-monetary financial institutions) went up by 1.0 percent to 41.949 billion lei.
The legal entities' leu deposits grew by 26.7 percent (16.8 percent in real terms) at end-May from the end of May 2007.
The foreign exchange deposits set up by the Romanians - individuals and the above-mentioned legal entities - dwindled by 3.3 percent down to 47.262 billion lei; in euro terms, the foreign exchange deposits went down by 1.8 percent to 13.051 billion euros, the central bank announced.
When compared to the same period last year, the Romanian residents' foreign exchange deposits climbed by 52.6 percent in leu terms and grew 37.9 percent in euro terms; the Romanian households' foreign exchange deposits went up by 55.6 percent in leu terms and by 40.7 percent in euro terms.
The foreign exchange deposits set up by the legal entities (non-financial companies and non-monetary financial institutions) advanced by 48.4 percent in leu terms and by 34.1 percent in euro terms, the BNR announced.
