Ford to open official representation office in Romania

BUCHAREST – Ford will have its own representation office in Romania either next year or in 2010, with no concrete discussion having taken place yet on taking over specific operations from current brand importer Romcar, according to Mediafax.

‘Opening a representation office takes a lot of work and analysis and, overall, it is a long process. At least a year, perhaps two lapse between the decision to open a representation and the moment when it is up and running. No decision ahs been made yet on taking the import operations, which means that Romcar is not going to cease being a Ford importer this year or in a year’s time’ Romcar Manager Catalin Gavra told Mediafax. Ford Europe General Director John Fleming was stating, end of March, when the company took over the Craiova-based automotive plant, that Ford would only open a representation office in Romania after consulting Romcar importer. ‘We have a partner that does its job properly and we have not made any decision on taking over the import operation in connection with the Ford motor-vehicles in Romania. Such a decision will be made after talking to our Romanian partner’ Fleming was stating. Sources close to Ford, quoted by Mediafax, say the Craiova Energy Complex needs to invest nearly EUR 9 M in order to be able to supply 2,600 cubic metres of water per hour, for heating and industrial use, to the American company’s local automotive plant, under an agreement signed by the parties.
