Carpatica denies negotiations with Commerzbank

Commerzbank, second-largest bank in Germany in terms of assets, is negotiating a takeover of Carpatica bank, controlled by Romanian businessman Ilie Carabulea, according to Mediafax news agency.
Carpatica’s representatives have denied the information in a release to the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB). Nicolae Negoita, General Manager of Carpatica Bank, said Commerzbank is the bank’s oldest external partner.

The Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) suspended on Wednesday the transaction of the Carpatica bank, after the launching of a rumor claiming that Commerzbank, the second largest German bank as assets, discusses the takeover of the Romanian institution. At the suspension moment, the Carpatica titles recorded a 15% growth, compared to the Tuesday closing price. "Despite all speculations, there are no discussions at the moment regarding the involvement on Commerzbank in the Banca Comerciala Carpatica social capital", said Nicolaie Hoanta, BCC general manager, in a press release later in the day. According to sources quoted by Mediafax and published by Ziarul Financiar, the German bank Commerzbank is currently negotiating with Banca Carpatica and may begin discuss about an agreement sometime this fall.
