Central bank governor: Lending growth rate excessively high
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 30 Iunie 2008
Lending growth rate is too high, affecting both the micro- and macro-economic environment, and the central bank seeks a slowdown in this advance, governor of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) Mugur Isarescu said on Friday.
'The lending growth rate is excessively high. BNR steps in only to adjust the speed, because there are also imbalances and unsustainable evolutions in the credit structure,' explained Isarescu.
The BNR official said that Romania got close to normalcy as far as the bank intermediation rate is concerned, with this parameter having reached some 40 pct, similar to Poland's level.
'Normalcy in Europe is 100 pct of the GDP. We and Poland are at the lower level of intermediation,' said Isarescu.
Finmedia organized on Friday the sixth edition of the Business Café 'Mugur Isarescu and his guests.'
The debate takes place within the FINFAIR Money Fair organized in Bucharest between June 26-28.
Banks, leasing companies, insurers, credit institutions, non-banking financial institutions and companies from connected industries present their lending offer at FINFAIR.
