IT market to reach 1.87 billion euros this year

The IT market in Romania can reach 1.878 billion euros this year, compared with 1.22 billion euros last year, according to recent estimates of IT research and consultancy company International Data Corporation (IDC), Business Standard writes on Friday.

The IT market will rise 31.3 percent this year from last year, the hardware segment will advance the most, 36.6 percent, followed by services, 19.6 percent, and software, 13.7 percent. The hardware market will be this year larger than the entire IT market last year, it is expected to reach 1.43 billion euros in end 2008. According to IDC, over 2008-2012, the main growth engines will be the purchase of hardware, which will stand by 2012 at more than 70 percent of the local IT market, and the swift adoption of broadband Internet services. In the software market, IDC expects 211 million euros at the end of this year, with slower growth rates, because of still high piracy, firstly. For the service market, the estimate stands at 233.5 million euros. In point of investment, competition is fierce in hardware, and the profit margins shrank a lot, so the production and distribution of hardware will be, neither in the future, a key factor for drawing investors, IDC analysts believe.
