PwC: Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia - the 'golden triangle' of investments
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 30 Iunie 2008
Romania came seventh in a ranking of the most attractive destinations for production companies and fourth by investment projects in the area of services, in a PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) ranking that includes 20 emerging countries.
According to PwC analysts, Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia are the 'golden triangle,' holding the leading seven positions at both categories of the classification.
'This confirms that the attractiveness of investment destinations is not determined just by the level of the GDP per capita. This indicator is important, but not sufficient. In Bulgaria and Romania's case, the recent EU accession prompted a reduction of country risk, especially of political risk, which resulted in superior indices,' reads the document cited by daily Ziarul Financiar.
The first edition of the ranking was worked out in 2007 and in 2008 Romania was also included in the ranking that is based on indices calculated according to the risks - benefits ratio specific to the respective states.
On a scale from 0 to 100, the indices reflect the value of the capital generated by each invested dollar. Thus, Romania scored 85 for investments in the productive sector, ranking ahead of Poland and China, that scored 81, Russia -79, Turkey - 83, but behind Bulgaria, which came second in the hierarchy.
Romania's service attractiveness index is 93, placing it fourth after Poland and Chile, with 95 each and Russia with 93, respectively.
'Romania came fourth due mainly to the high GDP per capita compared to emerging countries' standards. After EU accession, Romanian economy made a fast advance and the GDP per capita was equally quick. Romania gradually turns from a source of cheap workforce for production into an attractive destination for service companies orientated towards the needs of a local growing market,' assert the authors of the ranking.
