Economistul: 'Acceleration of disinflation'

In the fight against inflation, BNR governor Mugur Isarescu drew attention recently to the fact that if one wanted Romania to join the eurozone in 2014, one should hurry the disinflation process and reaching two years ahead of this important event, a sustainable level of inflation based on structural changes that are necessary in economy, reminds the editorialist of Friday's issue of Economistul daily.

The fight against inflation only through the means of the monetary policy, used successfully by BNR, can no longer be efficient, as until mid-2007, if these measures are not accompanied by necessary and urgent actions to continue the process of economic restructuring through economic policies drawn up and implemented by the Government. A mix of monetary, fiscal and budget policies to implement the infrastructures required by the sustainable economic development is inevitable to this end. That is why, the editorialist emphasizes, the BNR official says Romania's most important problem in the coming period is the absorption of European funds. Another vector of the economic growth in Romania is represented by foreign direct investments (FDI), which are estimated to reach this year 8bn euro. 'The success of meeting the objectives depends on the power to accelerate disinflation, absorption of non-repayable European funds, increasing FDI, cutting red tape and implementing a mix of economic, monetary and fiscal policies, in which all the state's authorities that manage the economy are involved directly and efficiently', the editorialist concludes.
