Eurocopter plans to outsource a part of business to Romania
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 1 Iulie 2008
Lutz Bertling, CEO of EADS NV unit Eurocopter, announced on Monday that the group intends to outsource to Romania a part of its maintenance, repair and overhaul activities (MRO).
Speaking during an interview published on Monday by French Financial daily 'Les Echos,' Bertling said that the reason why the company decided to entrust maintenance works to its facilities in Romania is that keeping them in France is no longer efficient.
The French-German company Eurocopter, a division of giant EADS, is the world's largest producer of civil helicopters. Eurocopter has been running a branch in Romania since 2001 - Eurocopter Romania - resulted from the association of IAR Ghimbav with Eurocopter-France. IAR Ghimbav holds 49 pct and the French partner has 51 pct of the company.
At the end of April, the State Assets Resolution Authority (AVAS) published the announcement for the sale of 12,250,488 shares representing 64.89 pct of the share capital of aircraft maker IAR SA Ghimbav; the company is listed on the RASDAQ market. So far, only two companies bought the task book for potentially participating in the bid - the French Eurocopter SAS and the Czech Aero Vodochody.
IAR Ghimbav was previously put up for privatization at the end of 2006, but Eurocopter was the sole bidder at that time and negotiations failed in October 2007, after the privatization deadline was several times postponed.
