Bonds are more profitable than stock exchange and banks
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 2 Iulie 2008
Investments in mutual funds with placements in bonds enjoyed yields of up to 5.1 percent in the first half-year, higher compared to the average 3.78 percent interest on deposits in H1 2008, say preliminary data provided by the fund management companies and the National Bank of Romania's (BNR) statistic figures.
Furthermore, investments in the top 10 companies listed on the Bucharest Bond funds benefited from increases in interest over the same period, while a bank deposit made six months ago had a constant interest rate. Bond funds usually have lower long-term yields, compared to share funds, while in the short-run they can have higher yields than stock market investments,' said Pioneer Asset Management General Manager Florin Dolea.
Four of the eight local mutual funds with placements in bonds and two monetary funds had higher yields compared to the average interest rate on deposits in the past six months.
On the other hand, given the significant decline of BVB quotations - 30.2 percent for the BET-C composite index - some share funds decided to protect their assets by investing in bonds. Under the circumstances even the share funds chose protecting their assets through investments in bonds.
The number of investments in mutual Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR) Monetar and BCR Obligatiuni went up more than twice in H1, BCR data say on June 30.
According to the listed data, the investors in the Europa Obligatiuni fund are by 48 more, other funds in banking deposits and in fix income instruments scoring up to 9.4 percent more clients.
Turbulences in the financial market have chased away many investors from the stock exchange, part of them migrating to the commodity markets. Nevertheless the share funds buy on the market, but at small range, only, says Certinvest investment manager Razvan Rusu.
