Electronic bill payment market at 5.8 billion euros annually

The electronic bill payment market in Romania is put at 5.8 billion euros annually, with over 180 million bills issued, according to data with PayUp, a company expert in solutions of electronic payment.

PayUp wants to invest 6 million euros by end of 2009 in order to install 6,000 devices of electronic bill payment in Romanian stores. 'We want the partner stores to have POS installed for citizens to be able to pay their bills to the utility companies, telephony operators and other service companies. The procedure is simple. The client comes with the bill and our partner will introduce the code for the payment operation in POS and will release a receipt,' said President of PayUp Group Luis Janeiro. He said that PayUp concluded contracts with the mobile telephony operators Orange and Vodafone, while the contracts with energy and natural gas distributors will become operational as of September. PayUp with main office in the Netherlands, currently holds operations in Poland, Serbia, Spain and Portugal. According to a survey of the company, some 40 percent of the pre-paid service users in Romania use the electronic charging and the market is dynamic and on the rise.
