Thermal power station in Constanta harbour
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 2 Iulie 2008
The National Company Administration of Maritime Ports Constanta approved early this week a foreign private investment in the construction of a thermal power station of high capacity in Constanta Port (eastern Romania).
Director of the Administration of Maritime Ports Constanta Constantin Matei told Rompres that the investment will be around 1 billion euros. The investors are the Belgian company Electrabel in cooperation with Comvex Constanta harbour operator, while the plant will be constructed near the Comvex ore terminal, where the imported fuel is unloaded by bulk carriers.
'The Administration rented to the two investors who launched this high capacity project, a 51 hectare terrain to build the thermal plant, its capacity being around 1,600 MW, above the output of Cernavoda nuclear plant,' said Matei.
The plant of the Romanian-Belgian group will operate on coal and biomass and will have a capacity of 1,600 MW split in two energy groups of 800 MW each.
The thermal plant in Constanta harbour will be connected to the National Energy System, the annual electricity produced here being one fifth of the total energy production in Romania.
