Twenty-three companies competing to build Cernavoda-Constanta motorway

As many as 12 companies have been short-listed to run in a tender for the award of design and work contracts on the Cernavoda-Medgidia segment of the Cernavoda-Constanta motorway, and 11 more for building the Medgidia-Constanta segment of the same motorway, the Romanian National Roads and Motorways Corporation (CNADNR) reports.

The award criterion is the smallest cost. The contracts are expected to be signed October 28-31, 2008. The two motorway segments should be completed in 24 months and the builders should provide a 24-month works warranty. The companies and business associations short-listed for the Cernavoda-Medgidia segment are : JV/CMC di Ravenna of Italy; Aktor of Greece; JV Impreglio Spa/Itinera of Italy; JV Ashtrom Int/Shapir Structures 1991 of Israel; JV Cengiz/Mapa of Turkey; JV Astaldi Spa/Max Bogl of Italy and Germany; JV Mochlos SA/Danya of Greece; JV FCC Construction/Alpine Bau Gmbh of Spain/Austria; Strabag of Austria; J&P Avax of Greece; JV Mota Engil/Monte Adriano/Soares da Costa of Portugal, and Colas SA of France. Short-listed for the Medgidia-Constanta segment are JV Condotte/CMC di Ravenna of Italy; Aktor of Greece; JV Impresa Pizzarotti & C Spa/C.lotti & Partners Spa of Italy; JV Ashtrom Int/Shapir Structures 1991 of Israel; JV Cengiz/Mapa of Turkey; JV Astaldi Spa/Max Bogl of Italy and Germany; JV Mochlos SA/Danya of Greece; JV FCC Construction/Alpine Bau Gmbh of Spain/Austria; Strabag of Austria; J&P Avax of Greece, and JV Mota Engil/Monte Adriano/Soares da Costa of Portugal. For the implementation of the motorway project, valued at 354 million euros, a 250-million-euro loan has been taken out from the European Investment Bank, to which co-funding of 104 million euros is added from the Romanian Government. Technical and financial bids for the Cernavoda-Medgidia segment are expected by September 15, while the bids for the Medgidia-Constanta segment are expected by September 18. The 50.8-km Cernavoda-Constanta motorway is divided into the 19-km Cernavoda-Medgidia segment and the 31.8-km Medgidia-Constanta segment.
