Romania ranks 11th among European and Eurasian oil producers

Rompres special correspondents Nicoleta Gherasi and Florentina Cioaca report: Romania ranks 11th in the classification of oil producers in Europe and Eurasia, with an oil production of 105,000 barrels a day, accounting for 0.1 percent of the world production, according to statistics presented by British Petroleum at the 19th World Petroleum Congress.
Russia is the region's top producer with 9.97 barrels a day, followed by Norway with 2.556 million barrels and Britain, with 1.636 million barrels a day.
The total oil production in Europe and Euroasia stood at 17.835 million barrels a day in 2007, representing 22 percent of the world production.
The oil consumption in Romania went up 4.7 percent in 2007 against 2006, at 229.000 barrels a day.
The biggest consumer is Russia, with 2.699 million barrels a day, followed by Germany with 2.393 millions, France with 1.919 millions, Italy with 1.745 millions, Ireland with 1.745 millions and Britain with 1.696 million barrels a day.
According to the BP statistics, Romania's oil reserves stand at 500 million barrels, less than half against those registered at the end of 1987, of 1.3 billion barrels.
Europe and Eurasia hold 11.6 percent of the total reserves, the biggest ones being found in Russia - 79.4 billion barrils, followed by Kazakhstan - 39.8 billion barrels and Norway - 8.2 billion barrels.
Over 4,000 representatives of the oil and gas sector, among which about 500 raporteurs, 16 ministers and 100 delegate councillors are attending, over June 29 - July 3, the 19th edition of the World Petroleum Congress held in Madrid, Spain.
