Financial Investment Companies (SIF) make specialized investments
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 4 Iulie 2008
Although the Financial Investment Companies (SIF) still have some of the most liquid shares, they brought the lowest yields last year compared to 2006. SIF 3 (SIF Transilvania) scored the highest figure namely 51 percent, followed by SIF 4 (SIF Muntenia), with 33 percent and SIF 5 (SIF Oltenia) with 22 percent. The SIFs' development largely depends on the efforts to restructure portfolios and the macroeconomic circumstances, reads a study conducted by Contrast Management Consulting.
Given that listed stocks represent most of the SIFs' portfolios, the lower yields are explained by the stock exchanges' poorer performances. The BET index grew by 24,9 percent only in 2007 compared to the rises higher than 100 percent last year.
The SIFs have strengthened their selective investments policy. SIF1 Banat Crisana has focused on the paper and steel industries, SIF 2 Moldova has invested in machine and equipment makers, SIF 3 increased its shares in tourism from 20 to 35 percent of the portfolio. SIF4 is involved in trade, agriculture and building materials while SIF 5 holds shares in energy and steel industry.
SIFs must restructure their portfolios and focus on companies with higher potentials in order to get good results on a descending market, Contrast Management Consulting official Remus Laes said.
