Mergers and acquisitions market goes higher than 3.3 billion euros in H1

The local mergers and acquisitions market (M&A), that has gone higher than 3.3 billion euros in the first half-year, i.e. by 150 percent more than on the same period a year ago, will keep on the same upward trend in the second half-year as well, said Ioana Filipescu, director general of Raiffeisen Investment Romania, the investment bank of Raiffeisen Group.

As many as 83 transactions have been signed since the beginning of the year, with the first acquisitions made by Romanian companies in foreign markets also taking place. Real estate has remained the most dynamic segment of the economy, with the mergers and acquisitions totalling more than one billion euros or 34 percent of the overall M&A activity Jan. through June. On the second spot there was the energy sector, followed by financial and insurance services. There were seven transactions worth over 100 million euros, out of which three were in real estate and four in industry. 'Although the capital is more expensive and the profitability of the investment, therefore, may be lower, Romania beyond the present moment remains a country with a high development potential, with activity sectors still little consolidated', Filipescu stressed. The development of the M&A market brings about the development of related markets like business law firms, management consultancy, M&A consultancy.
