Phishing attack on BCR customers, yesterday
BRC customers yesterday became the target of a phishing attack, receiving an e-mail message telling them the bank had taken new security measures, Realitatea.net informs. The customers were being re-directed to a web-page where they were being instructed to key in their bank card information as well as their security codes. The idea was that the new security measures would provide 100 per cent security to bank cards. The website contained BCR’s visual identity elements as well as the bank’s specific colours. BCR informed yesterday that it had counter-attacked the operation. Such attacks are nothing new. Piraeus Bank, Raiffeisen and Bancpost had been victims of similar attacks in the past. Customers need to know that banks never ask for their PIN codes by electronic mail.
