BRM half-year trade reaches 65 million euros on fuel

The Romanian Commodities Exchange (BRM) has reported spot transactions worth approximately 65 million euros in the first half of 2008, up 20 percent from H1 2007, on rises in prices for oil products.

BRM officials say the trade value might reach 150 million euros at the end of the year. 'The first six months of the year witnessed the opening of a ring for natural gas transactions, further developments in the ring for oil products, electronic transactions in energy, natural gas and oil quotations. The second part of the year will witness transactions in oil products, quotations for construction materials and a rise in the energy and gas trade values,' says BRM Spot Market Director Ionut Zlate. Oil products were the heaviest traded commodities, having recorded a surge of more than 60 percent in trade compared with the first six months of 2007, according to data with BRM. Trade in oil products won BRM 56 million euros, which is 86 percent of the total trade revenues. The ring for general commodities, construction materials, fruit and vegetables included, witnessed a doubling in deals, to 4.7 million euros, with general commodities having been the second heaviest traded commodities in H1 2008, to the tune of 2.5 million euros.
