EUR rate dropped to RON 3.5581
Nine o'Clock - 21 Iulie 2008
National Bank of Romania (BNR) released, on Friday, a reference rate quoting EUR 1 to RON 3.5581, down by RON 0.124 (0.35 per cent) compared to the previous day, when the rate was RON 3.5705 for EUR 1. US dollar was also quoted by RON 0.062 less (0.27 per cent), and BNR displayed an exchange rate of RON 2.2417 for USD 1, compared to RON 2.2479 in the previous session.
The gold gram was quoted at RON 69.2814, by RON 0.04277 less than on Wednesday.
Yet, according to Realitatea TV Channel, business analysts do not think that EUR may drop below RON 3.5 this summer, as there are no solid grounds for a strong appreciation of the national currency, in spite of the fact that National Commission for Prognosis was speaking about a strong depreciation of the single currency up to this level. Based on the estimations released by National Commission for Prognosis, July will the time of glory for the national currency and it could sell for RON 3.4, compared to RON 3.55, its current quotation. Business analysts affirm that this prognosis is far from reality. “It could be that a rate around RON 3.6 – 3.65 would be a normal one. It is difficult to have an estimation. On short run, we have reasons to believe that RON appreciates. Why this? Because until 25th duties and taxes corresponding to the second quarter of the year are paid and in general, demand for RON is higher around this time, which results in RON appreciating”, as Radu Soviani, editor for The Money Channel, said.
