AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 25 Iulie 2008
T-bonds will be listed with the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) starting next week, said the minister of economy and finance Varujan Vosaganian in an interview for daily Bursa.
The event is important for the market of capital, reads the aforementioned daily. The listing of state bonds on the stock exchange has been requested on the market for more than 12 years, but the authorities, although promised it several times have constantly postponed it.
Minister Vosganain said that in 2007 when he became finance minister, he resumed the process also helped by the economic context.
‘'Now , we have a predictability of the national economy which allows us to release T bonds with longer maturity period. The only procedure left to be done is the signing of a contract between the two depositors. Experts with the National Bank of Romania (BNR) have already approved the project,'' said economy minister Varujan Vosganian who estimated for the beginning of next week an issue of T-bonds on the stock exchange.
Vosganian said that another reason for which the process has been accelerated is a signal given to investors referring to the confidence in the stock exchange.
‘'The development of T-bonds on the stock exchange might give a certain stability to the market. It might even mark the return of the stock exchange to the rises we've been used to. Investors must be given the chance to find more products on the stock exchange,'' said minister Vosganian in the interview.
Vosganian said that BVB needs investors and that the number of players on the Bucharest Stock Exchange very low. We need to turn the exchange into an authentic public institution,'' said Vosganian.
‘'There are 26 series of bonds that will be listed. About 15-20 percent of the issue will be on the stock exchange, the remainder remaining on the inter-banking market,'' said the minister of economy and finance.
