Finland's Consolis Group enters local market by takeover of Asa Cons

Negotiations took six months. Asa Cons Romania production manager Stefan Pop said that the value of the deal cannot be yet given to publicity, but mentioned that by joining Consolis Group, Asa Cons will be able to better cope with competition from Asian and US producers.

Asa Cons Romania was established in 1999 and currently employs 379 persons; the company estimates a turnover of about 31 million euro for 2008, by some 12 pct more than in the previous year. A new production facility will be opened near Urziceni, to reduce transportation costs and tap the Bucharest prefab market.

The paper notes that the precast concrete market became increasingly attractive to foreign investors and to investment funds in the first place.
