Austrian investors moor in Giurgiu Port

No less than 50 Austrian investors on board of the Amadeus ship moored on Thursday in the Giurgiu-based Port (southern Romania) to meet with the city and county authorities both, so as to discuss on such future investments they might carry out here in the future.
'Your presence here represents a special event for our community as we are permanently concerned, the same as our Bulgarian neighbours, with developing the transportation on the Danube River, as well as with bringing other investments in the area, with the first Austrian investors in Giurgiu having been Voest Alpine which is to launch by the end of the year the construction of a tray conversion facility,' the mayor of the city Lucian Iliescu said on the occasion.
He also added that the inhabitants in Giurgiu and the authorities are interested in developing the industry in the area, the transportation infrastructure on the Danube River, and also in development such fields as culture and tourism, which can be developed with the help of the partners from Austria too.
The Austrian Ambassador to Bucharest Martin Eichtinger said that the Austrian businessmen who moored on Thursday in the Giurgiu Port are interested in carrying out investments in such fields as transportation, constructions, metal processing and services.
The authorities in Giurgiu assured them they will be allowed to develop businesses in the Free Area, in the Giurgiu Port, and that development opportunities in the are exist further too, with the construction of a canal to link the Danube with the capital city Bucharest is currently taken into account and also discussions related to an airport to be erected in the Adunatii Copaceni locality area close to Giurgiu.
Participating in the meeting with the Austrian businessmen there were also the Secretary of State with the Ministry of Transportation Septimiu Buzasu, the Giurgiu County Deputy Prefect Silvia Craita, Chairman of the County Council Dumitru Beianu, Chairman with the Giurgiu Administration of Fluvial Ports on the Danube Gheorghe Spoiala, the Chairman with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Agriculture Alexandru Epangeac and also other local businessmen.
