Hirschmann Automotive Romania closed due to collective work accident
AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 11 August 2008
The Hirschmann Automotive Romania plant located on the platform of the Mures Industrial Park (centre) was closed on Friday following a collective work accident that sent ten persons to the emergency room.
Industrial Park director Istvan Nagy told Agerpres that the accident occurred during the night shift and that more than 150 workers had to be evacuated.
Of these, ten were hospitalized, but according to Nagy, they are out of danger. Istvan Nagy said that the workers were intoxicated because a company working to extend the Hirschmann hall used a substance called xylol, without notifying the plant management that it is toxic.
Head of the Mures Environmental Protection Agency Danut Stefanescu said that a special concrete lacquer that contains the highly dangerous substance xylol was used during the process.
An emergency response committee met on site in order to exactly identify the cause of the accident. Until then, the Hirschmann Automotive facility stays closed.
