Leader of world's prostheses market enters Romanian market
AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 14 August 2008
German company Otto Bock, the leader of world's market of medical products for disabled people, with a global turnover of over 600 million euro, has entered the local market, where it targets in the medium term a turnover of 4 million euro, Business Standard writes on Wednesday.
'Until this year, Romania was an export market, but our local subsidiary has become operational this year and we have the company's entire offer of products', Ionut Savescu, CEO of Otto Bock Romania said.
He added that in 3-5 years, the turnover of Otto Bock in Romania may reach 4-5 million euro, given the local potential and the developments on other Eastern-European markets where the German company has opened subsidiaries.
For this year, the local subsidiary estimates a turnover in excess of 1.5 million euro in a context in which the local market is affected by the low subsidize level. Currently, the National Health Insurance House (CNAS) gives as subsidy only 800 euro, although the cost of a modern prosthesis stands at 4,500-5,000 euro.
The ratio between the subsidies for medicines and medical products for disabled people differ a great deal - 20 euros/ 8 euros, respectively.
Although Otto Bock does not work directly with CNAS, the firm's products are compensated through the local prosthesis companies that have contracts with CNAS.The value of the local market of medical products for disabled people is evaluated at 26 million euro by the source.
