Small companies on courier market in Romania

Despite the big international companies presence, an important role on the courier services market in Romania is played by smaller companies with annual turnovers of some million euros, Ziarul financiar daily reports in its Friday issue.
If, at the start, clients showed distrust towards the smaller courier companies, they have become increasingly opened and more receptive in time. 'Due to competition, this kind of services are cheaper despite a steady increase in fuel price', Florin Parvulescu, Chief executive of Mobius Express Co. is quoted as saying by the daily.
Florin Parvulescu pointed out that the minimum needed to start a courier business from the infrastructure point of view (auto park, storage facilities, logistics) is 3 million euros. Mobius Express has launched its business in 2006, with 50 employees, their number rising now at 350. Together with his Austrian partners, Parvulescu has invested more than 4 million euros in two years time. 2007 turnover stood at 1.8 million euros, and in 2008 a 35 percent hike is expected.
In the case of Fastius Curier Co., everything started in 2002, with a study of this market conducted on some sample companies in Bucharest. 90 percent of them said a new courier firm would be needed, to cover demand on the market. The first clients of Fastius Curier were contacted on the occasion of a profile fair. Last year, its turnover stood at 500,000 euros, double from the previous year. In 2008, the company executives stake on a turnover of 1 million euros.
'Clients' willingness is in fact the key of our success because this way we do not need publicity, the product quality being our main promotional tool', emphasized Ciprian Pulpa, Fastus Curier director. According to him, some statistics referring to the evolution of the courier market show that this field is expected to follow an upward trend with an annual growth of 20-30 percent.
Ciprian Pulpa thinks that the fast courier market on the business segment has still an important potential, with an increasing demand, in the context in which the time and deadline pressure is also growing and decisions must be taken at a fast pace.
