Wind energy projects along a steady development trend
Nine o'Clock - 15 Septembrie 2008
The Romanian energy market is assaulted by investment projects for the development of wind - driven capacities, and the national energy transport company, Transelectrica, has received applications for network linking of wind plants having a capacity of more than 12,000 MW, which accounts for 70 per cent of the total installed power within the National Energy System (SEN), according to The Money Channel.
The flow of applications for such investments is based on the aid schemes promoted by state. The target announced by the European Union is to have 20 per cent renewable energy by 2020. Romania aims at reaching a share of renewable energy, in total consumption, of 33 per cent in 2010 and 38 per cent in 2020.
In case of Romania, 2008 is a reference year considering that financial support mechanisms for such investments have been promoted. This is the explanation for such a flow of applications from potential investors. The accomplishment of wind driven capacities requires a high investment, worth EUR 1.5 M, for each MW installed. The most recent project announced is the one from the Czech company CEZ, which took over, in August, from Continental Wind Partners, two wind energy projects, located north of Constanta, with a total capacity of 600 MW.
