Romania's financial companies surge 2.17% on closing on the BSE, on a volatile market

The five financial companies in Romania or SIFs hiked 2.17 percent at closing hour on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BSE) on a general moderate climb, after investors remained optimistic following the U.S. authorities' plan to save the financial system.
Liquidity dropped 39.4 percent to 35.75 million lei (9.85 million euros) from 59.02 million lei in the previous session. The BET index of the ten best companies listed on BSE rose 2.01 percent to 4,761.66 and the BET-C composite index measuring all listed shares minus financial companies added 1.92 percent to 3,600.66.The BET-FI index of the financial companies (SIFs) gained 2.17 percent to 28,700.05 and the ROTX index for trading blue-chips in Vienna grew 1.98 percent to 11,874.39. The BET-XT index of the 25 most liquid companies soared 2.08 percent to 501.56 and the BET-NG index of the ten power companies increased 0.29 percent to 683.83.
European bourses inched after planned acquisition announcement European bourses increased slightly at closing hour in Bucharest, after bank shares appreciated following the announcement made by Mitsubishi UFJ Financial that it plans to buy 10-20 percent of the investment bank Morgan Stanley. The DAX index in Frankfurt grew 0.38 percent to 6,212.76 and the CAC40 in Paris gained 0.17 percent to 4,332.29. The FTSE index in London inched 0.03 percent to 5,312.8. But the financial markets remain tensed as more Wall Street giants fail. The last standing investment banks Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley announced they will become traditional bank holding companies, under the stricter supervision of the U.S. Federal Reserve.
Shares of SIF Oltenia and SIF Moldova, the most traded Shares of financial company SIF Oltenia (SIF5) were the most liquid, with total deals of 5.93 million lei, and surged 2.05 percent to 1.49 lei. SIF Moldova (SIF2) hiked 2.21 percent to 1.39 lei, SIF Transilvania (SIF3) gained 2.08 percent to 0.735 lei, SIF Muntenia (SIF4) added 1.60 percent to 0.955 lei and SIF Banat-Crisana (SIF1) jumped 2.96 percent to 1.39 lei. Romania's second lender by assets BRD SocGen (BRD) boosted 5.22 percent to 14.10 lei. Erste Bank, the majority owner of largest Romanian lender, appreciated 2.12 percent to 154.10 lei. Oil company Petrom (SNP) went up 0.81 percent to 0.373 lei and fertilizer producer Azomures (AZO) soared 8.04 percent to 0.497 lei. On the derivatives segment, there was no trading with bonds or futures contracts.
