SIF net assets decline 19.5pc since January

The total net assets of the five SIFs financial investment companies stood at RON 9.260 billion as of end-August, down 3.7 percent from the month before and 19.5 percent from December 2007, the Association of Fund Administrators (AAF) reports.
Stated in the single European currency, the SIF net assets were 2.6 billion euros, down 0.1 million euro on a monthly basis.
Compared with end-2007, the developments in all the SIFs continued to be negative, with corrections ranging between minus 15.7 percent for SIF Muntenia and minus 22.8 percent for SIF Oltenia.
Overall, the five SIF's financial investments recorded a decline of some 5.5 percent, to RON 7.13 billion as far as short-term investments were concerned this August compared with July, while their weight in the total assets fell down to 74.3 percent at en-August, from 75.6 percent at end-July.
The weight of quoted shares included in the short-term investments of the SIFs was unchanged from the month before, at 99 percent, while the weight of all quoted shares in the total assets of the SIFs dropped from 76.1 percent at end-July to 78.6 percent in late August.
In late 2007, quoted shares in the SIF portfolios were worth RON 9.55 billion, making up 81.2 percent of the total assets. In the time between December 2007 and end-August 2008 they went down to RON 7.3 billion and 76 percent of the total asstes.
