Eurostat:Romanian industry tops EU ranking of orders
ACT Media - News Agency - 26 Septembrie 2008
Romania ranked first in the EU in terms of volume of new orders in industry also in July, when it recorded a 29.2% rise in the number of new orders in industry versus the similar period of 2007, according to a Eurostat study.
Romania ranked first for the second consecutive month. In the June 2007 - June 2008 period, the Romanian industry advanced in terms of new orders by 27.8%. On the other hand, the new orders rose by only 0.6% versus the previous month, which places the country in the second part of the ranking.
In the annual ranking, the Romanian industry was followed by Latvia (26.2% rise in new orders), Estonia (23%), Lithuania (17.4%) and Portugal (17.1%). The last places in the ranking were occupied by Sweden (-2.9%), Poland (-4.3%) and Denmark (-11.2%). In monthly terms, the biggest performances were recorded by Estonia (9.9% rise in the volume of new orders), Italy (5.9%) and France (4.3%).
BNR presented on Tuesday a survey on September's trend of the main economic indicators in industry and construction sector. Thus, as far as the Romanian industry is concerned, BNR considers that in September the production will resume a rising trend, after a slowdown in summer, due to the holiday period. A similar trend is anticipated also in terms of the total portfolio of orders.
According to the relevant analysts, the Romanian industry continues to be attractive, and there are fields that have recorded substantial growth. The car industry has grown a great deal; over 100,000 Logan units are being exported. The IT industry has recorded a significant growth as well. The construction and real estate sectors have pushed up the industry of construction materials. Additionally, there are fields where the Romanian firms have succeeded in standing out. Such an example is the battery industry, where Rombat Bistrita (northern Romania) outstripped its foreign competition. There is also the possibility for some other big investment, which may accelerate the growth of industry. For example, if Voestalpine chooses Romania, the company will need tens of thousands tonnes of equipment, which it will buy from the companies in Romania.
