Stock exchange continues upward trend
AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 29 Septembrie 2008
Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) continued its upward trend, the main market index - BET closing the trading session on Thursday on a plus. This index, reflecting the evolution of the top 10 companies in terms of liquidity, showed just a slight advance, of 0.06 percent.
The expanded market index - BET-XT saw a drop by 0.6 percent, its composition being modified. Three new companies were included in this index: Azomures (AZO), Dafora (DAFR) and Socep (SOCP) and Alumil (ALU), Altur (ALT) and Prodplast (PPT) being taken off.
Marius Triff, general director of brokerage Carpatica Invest, says that due to news on the foreign markets and especially to those on the American one, reflecting a calmer situation, fluctuations on the local bourse tend to diminish. He does not think the prices will plummet as in the past and considers that the same is valid in case of the other European bourses which, in his opinion, will not see declines of up to 4-5 percent.
Petrom (SNP) titles shed 0.8 percent in Thursday trading session, the energy company shares being bought at a price of 0.358 lei/share (1 euro = 3.6 lei), whereas Transelectrica (TEL) shares closed at the same reference level as in the previous session, namely 18.5 lei/share. Rompetrol Rafinare (RRC) titles climbed 3.3 percent, up to the level of 0.043 lei/share.
Energy index BET-NG advanced by 0.3 percent, attaining the threshold of 660 points.
As for the financial companies, the biggest decline was registered by SIF Banat-Crisana (SIF1), 3 percent, to the price of 1.31 lei/share. In the declines top there were also SIF Muntenia (SIF4) titles, with a drop of 2.7 percent, to the level of 0.915 lei/share. Trading with SIF Moldova (SIF2) titles was the most valuable among SIFs, the value of transactions rising above 2.2 million lei (611,000 euros). The remainder of financial companies saw reductions ranging between 0.7 and 0.8 percent.
The negative evolution of the investment companies pushed downward the profile index - BET-FI, which closed the trading session with a drop of 1.6 percent compared to the reference level.
'Till this year-end we can expect a SIFs recovery or at the latest, at the beginning of next year. The new measures taken by the Finance Ministry will also encourage investors to enter the stock exchanges, but the effects will be likely seen next year. The Government's decision to get involved into bourse activities shows that, at last, the Bucharest Bourse is seen as a real correspondent of the capital market in Romania', added Trif.
Titles of the Romanian Bank for Development - Groupe Societe Generale (BRD) and those of Austrian Erste Bank were the main titles in the banking field incurring losses, Ziarul financiar reports. BRD titles dropped on Thursday by 2.2 percent, till 13.2 lei/share, whereas Erste shares recorded a loss of 0.6 percent. Shares of Carpatica Commercial Bank (BCC) gained 0.5 percent.
