CEZ buys turbines from GE

Czech energy group CEZ, which has recently bought the wind project developed in Romania by consortium Continental Wind Partners LLC (CWP) will ensure the American energy giant GE Energy (the energy division of General Electric) the biggest order of wind turbines from Central and Eastern Europe , economic daily Business Standard reports on Wednesday.
CEZ Group, present in Romania since 2005, is one of the biggest producers, suppliers and distributors of energy in Europe. Company GE Energy is one of the world's main suppliers of technologies producing electricity and of electricity supply, with revenues of 22 billion dollars in 2007. Headquartered in Atlanta, the company activates in all the sector of the energy industry in the field of renewable resources (water, wind energy, solar energy and biogas), as well as other alternative fuels.GE Energy on Tuesday announced the implementation of two sweeping projects in Romania, designed to step up the modernization process of the country's energy infrastructure, reads a release of the company.
Within the first project, GE Energy delivers 139 wind turbines, model 2.5xl to developer CEZ Grup for the project of 347.5 megawatts of Fantanele, Tulcea county, one of the areas with the biggest potential of wind energy in Romania. The projects consist of the realization of one of the biggest wind farm's in Europe, representing the biggest installation of wind turbines of GE Energy in Europe. Fantanele will be a project with fast finalization, with the wind turbines of GE Energy scheduled to be set up and commissioned between April and December next year.
For the second project, GE Energy will deliver four of the strongest engines Jenbacher ‘'type 6' on gas to electricity producer Vest Energo, that will build an cogeneration installation of 14 MW in Bucharest, contributing to the modernization of the local heating authorities. Cogeneration is more efficient and entails a lower consumption of fossil fuel than the equipment that separately generate heating and electricity. The European Union urged member states to extend the utilization of cogeneration in order to meet the objectives in the field of efficiency.
‘'The two projects are part of Romania's sweeping initiative of modernization of its own energy infrastructure. The projects from Romania stress an emphasized regional tendency in the energy field in countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Many of them take advantage of the progress in the field of energy technologies, the liberalization of the energy sector and the access to financing in order to upgrade the existing energy infrastructure,'' said the general manager of GE Energy for Central and Eastern Europe, Russia and CIS, Rod Christie.
According to the European Wind Energy Association at the beginning of 2008 Romania had an installed capacity of wind energy of 8 megawatts. The government set to add a capacity of 200 megawatts by the end of 2010.
The Fantanele project will allow the fulfillment of the objective nationwide.
Project Vest-Energo will endorse the National Action Plan for Romania's energy efficiency in view to aggressive modernization of the Romanian municipal and industrial heating networks.
