AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 9 Octombrie 2008
Romanian banking system has no liquidity problem, Romanian National Bank's spokesperson Mugur Stet told Agerpres on Wednesday, also giving assurance deposits of the population are safe.
He also added that 'the National Bank is still attracting the surplus of liquidity from the commercial banks,' which is a clear proof of the Romanian commercial banks having no cash problems.
According to the Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund, as much as 99.2 percent of the deposits of the population in the banking system are currently worth up to 20,000 euros, which mean they do not exceed the limit guaranteed by the Fund.
'The population has at its disposal other forms of investments too, and if one wants to deposit outside the banking system's deposits it is free to do so. While referring strictly to such deposits in the banking system, they are almost all guaranteed. So that there are no problems. And more than that, the Romanian banking system had no liquidity problem,' Mugur Stet also said.
