Nicolae Cinteza: Romanian banks do not have problems
AGERPRES - Romanian News Agency - 9 Octombrie 2008
No bank in the Romanian banking system has any liquidity problems and all banks are in line with the liquidity norms requested, ' head of the Central Bank's Surveillance Department Nicolae Cinteza said on Wednesday.
'The solidarity and the quality of the banks in the system is extraordinary good. We have no reason to intervene,' Cinteza said.
There is unlikely for any bank to be in default of payment as there is enough liquidity, the BNR official said. No bank in the system has such problems.
'I can guarantee you that we are ready to intervene in supporting that certain bank and any other bank that would face problems in ensuring liquidities, problems related to cash withdrawal following rumors,' Cinteza said, when asked about a certain bank facing difficulties at the moment.
'In case a certain bank is in difficulty, I can see no reason why not grant it the support it needs,' he underscored.
If a bank is solid and has a good quality of assets, I don't see any reason why not support it, the BNR official explained.
